1540 is a Mercedes O305 built in 1984 and operated out of St Agnes Depot for all its service life until it was sent else where as part of the Rail Replacement Bus Fleet.
Throughout its life, it operated for the S.T.A., TransAdelaide, Serco, Torrens Transit and finally Southlink (rail replacement bus fleet). It was withdrawn from passenger service in April 2012 and remained at Elizabeth Depot awaiting its fate for scrap like many other buses.
However in July 2012 it was placed for sale tender along with 1541 and Articulated O305G 1546 and re-located to Morphettville Bus Depot. A local bus enthusiast put in a bid for one of these buses, he looked to restore it to its former Blue & Green Busway Livery. This is a fine example of Adelaide’s Bus history that lives on today for all to enjoy and remember the good old days of Adelaide’s Busway
